Far too expensive for a book cover.

Leather too which is a bad choice for amimal product sensitive types.

There are less expensive alternatives out there for sure.

  2. I received this cover in the brown as a gift, after buying the Amazon leather cover. This is a pure luxury item, much like the Kindle itself. The leather is supple, soft, feels great to the touch. It looks and smells great.

However, from a functional standpoint, the Amazon leather cover is more suited to the job. It is sturdier, and takes advantage of the new system to lock into the case, unlike this cover which relies on inconveniently located straps. This cover is a bit floppy (from the softness of the leather), and i prefer the bit of rigidity built into the Amazon cover.

Get the basic Amazon leather cover, which announces the Kindle on the front. This one, embossed with the Cole Haan brand, screams “pretentious overspender”. Spend the extra $70 on content for your Kindle.

  3. The cover doesn’t fit! When closed, the right hand side of the Kindle is uncovered. The top two elastic straps (which hold the Kindle in place) cover switches. The top left strap covers the power switch and the top right switch covers the volume control.

  4. … but that’s about all I can say about it that’s not problematic.

One function of a cover should be to protect your expensive Kindle 2, but without any kind of stiff board lining, this isn’t going to do it. It’s nice and soft, but useless if you do anything other than carry this around with you at home rather than out in the world.

The straps, as other reviews have mentioned, lie irritatingly over both the volume controls, and even worse, the power switch. Unlike the first Kindle, the new one does not power on by a combination keystroke — you *must* use the power switch. So, every time, you may need to pull the top left strap out of the way.

Also as mentioned, the cover won’t go all the way backwards. Not a problem, per se, if you plan to use this like a more formal book cover. But if you’re expecting that, the double layer won’t allow it.

If you want a nice looking cover with little protection, and some inconveniences, this would be okay. Otherwise, you may want to select the $30 standard rather than this $100 Cadillac.

Although a fine piece oof leather, the way it is constructed does not allow the cover to fold neatly behind the book. Also…the pocket on the inside flap is useless. It is not worth the $99.00.

I have a Kindle 1 with M-EDGE cover, and that is a much superior cover.
