It’s a nice cover, but the tab to close the cover floats over the screen and navigation buttons when it’s open. You have to remove the Kindle 2 to read without distractions which makes the cover pretty useless. I’m returning it and ordering one without the tab.

  2. I live in Vermont and winter days can be pretty dark. At my age my eyeball’s rods and cones don’t work as well as they once did so I went looking for a reader light for my Kindle 2. I found one at a lower price than most but after it arrived I discovered that aside from it being a piece of junk, the light wasn’t bright enough for my old eyes.

Then I read a review that suggested an M-edge reader light specifically made for E-Readers such as my Kindle.

It was great! Real bright light. However it wouldn’t attach to my Kindle as is. Only if a jacket was involved. So I searched around Kindle accessories again.

Most of the jackets that I looked at opened from the side, kinda like a book. That didn’t make sense to me. One of the bigger reasons I like my Kindle is that it is NOT like a book.

Then I hit upon this one: M-edge Platform Jacket for Kindle 2.

Kind of expensive but it looked like I could fold the cover back and set it up on a table while I ate my cereal and stuff.

    Well it works great!

It’s good looking. It does prop up on the kitchen table as well as on my lap – with my knees up, wrapped in a comforter with my hands warming inside besides.

The M-edge light works great too and I am able to close the jacket with the light still attached.

It is a little heavy, however. Like I would imagine a lady’s pocketbook to be. I’m no lady (not much of a gentleman either, I’m guessing) so I wouldn’t really know, but to me it does have a little heft to it. Probably a good thing, though. Gotta protect the sizable investment.

I give it 5 stars because I’m happy with it and I think that with this jacket I have finally completed my Kindle accessories quest.

My first Kindle arrived just this morning (9-21-09) with this marvelous cover. I had also read the many unhappy reviews of the hinge version so this was the best option for me. It has a very nice feel and the corner straps make it quite secure without the danger of being cracked by hinges.

I am having trouble understanding how others believe that it is not a good angle for reading. I downloaded 6 books and immediately took my Kindle to lunch where it sat on the table at the correct height and angle not only for my reading enjoyment but also to amaze my waitress and many passing customers.

I am surprised not many people reviewed this product.

I am new Kindle owner and was looking for a good cover that is not very expensive and at the same time that looks good. This one is perfect. I did a lot of research on all the Kindle covers that were available. The most popular ones, the best selling ones had a hinge system. Although lot of reviews were in favor of these hinge products, I did hear a lot of criticism about the hinge doing damage (scratches) to the Kindle device. I was not going to take that chance. I then decided to take a look at all non hinge products available. I went to M Edge website and found this one, but because of the shipping cost they charge if you order from their website, I came back to amazon to order it with free shipping. That worked out well.

It looks great, I have a mocha brown colored one. It fits in seconds into the elastic bands and feels very secure. No hinges, no attachments.. nothing.

It feels really good to hold it. Opening and reading the Kindle is easy with all buttons easily accessible and you can also make this a book stand for hands free reading (although I never really tried reading it like that),but you could do it. It has a slot for pencil/pen, a small folder for couple of documents. This one also has a leather fastener on the outside, which is very neat.

All in all, a great product for a very reasonable price. 5 stars.

This product is great for protection of the kindle but when opened it sits at too straight of an angle for reading. You must find a way to tilt it to use it as a reading stand.
